MWMS to Hold an Ellicott City Benefit Concert , 5/30 at 7 pm

Tue, 05/29/2018 - 7:47pm

Dear Mayfield Community,

We are sure that you are as upset as we are after the devastating effects of the flooding in Ellicott City this weekend.  Like us, you may be wondering "what" we can do as a community.

With that, we have decided to make tomorrow night's outdoor "Summer Pops Concert"  a benefit concert.  The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. on the blacktop/field.  Bring your lawn chairs and dinner and enjoy the sweet sounds of the MWMS Concert Band and the MWMS Symphonic Band combine their talents for a casual evening of al fresco music. This year’s theme is “Broadway Through the Years” featuring music from West Side Story to Wicked!

If you wish to donate and support a local cause, we will be accepting cases of water, cleaning supplies, flashlights and other donations for Ellicott City Flood Relief.  Other needed items include peanut butter, cereal, canned foods, and supplies such as rubber and work gloves, paper towels, rags, bleach and disposable coveralls.

We have volunteers on our MWMS staff who have offered to deliver the donations to the Howard County Food Bank on Thursday.  If you have a large vehicle, and would be willing to help deliver the donations, please let Ms. Shindel, principal, or Mr. Hunter, band director, know after the concert.  Once we see how much has been donated, we will know how much help we will need.

If you would rather make a monetary donation, the Howard County Government has asked that citizens make financial donations to the Howard County Community Relief Fund https://cfhoco.org/2018/05/howard-county-community-relief-fund/.

This event is "rain or shine", and as of now we are still hoping to hold the concert outside.  The ground may be a little damp, so we encourage you to bring lawn chairs to sit in (and not blankets).  If we do decide to move the concert inside to the gym, we will have the stage doors open so you can enjoy your dinner in the cafeteria while you listen to our wonderful Mayfield bands.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Hunter, band director, or Ms. Shindel, principal.

Thank you so much for your support.

Sincerely,

Melissa Shindel
Principal
