2019-2020 Course Registration Information - updated 1/17/19

High School Course selections for 8th grade students must be made by Friday, January 18th.  New for this year, course selections can only be made through the student’s Synergy account, but parents are able to view course recommendations and selections through their HCPSS Connect account.  We encourage all families to talk with their students about their course requests and choose the classes together. Students must select a total of 7 requested courses equaling 7 credits as well as 3 alternate courses. All Course Placement Review Forms must be submitted to Student Services by January 18.  If you have concerns about or disagree with any of the course recommendations, you may complete the reverse side of the course registration form and submit to Student Services.

The following resources should help with navigating the Synergy course registration process.

If your child is planning to apply to a private high school or the JROTC program please refer to the instructions listed below.

Private School Applications:

Please note all requests for private school applications including teacher recommendations need to be directed to Erin Clark, Student Services Secretary at 410.313.5025 or erin_clark@hcpss.org.  Ms. Clark will coordinate the school's part of the application including getting teacher recommendation forms to the teachers and mailing the requested information to the school.  Please note that we need a two week turn around time.  If items are sent directly to the teachers and not Ms. Clark it will delay the process.  We will do our best to expedite the process but cannot guarantee anything.  Please plan ahead.

How to Participate in JROTC

https://www.hcpss.org/jrotc/

Please note that some schools may require a written application essay or other pre-interview materials.

  • Schedule an Interview
    • Students must contact a JROTC official at school of interest to schedule an interview and submit an application if required.
    • The window to request an interview is November 29, 2018 – January 11, 2019.
    • Once you have your interview scheduled, notify Ms. Clark at 410.313.5025 so she can gather the required school records.  You will also need to let her know which teacher is writing your recommendation.  The day before your interview, a sealed envelope containing the requested information (including the teacher recommendation) will be sent home with the student.

  • Complete the Interview
    • Final date for interviews is January 18, 2019.
    • Students will be interviewed by the JROTC instructor at their school of interest.

  • Register
    • Distribution of the approval/denial/waitlist letters will be on February 4, 2019.
    • If accepted into a program, students must contact the registrar office by February 15, 2019.
