Dear Mayfield Woods School Community,
I am writing to inform you that at this afternoon’s Board of Education meeting, important information was shared concerning the administration at Mayfield Woods Middle School for the 2025 -2026 academic year. Effective July 1, 2025, Ms. Cunningham will be assigned as the Assistant Principal at Wilde Lake Middle School. Ms. Cunningham has served in the role of Assistant Principal here at Mayfield Woods Middle for the past four years, lovingly caring for our students and effectively working on their behalf. Her smile, “can-do” attitude, and extensive relationship building efforts will be sorely missed. Thank you Ms. Cunningham, for giving so very freely of yourself. We wish you every success in your new professional home as you work with the students, staff, and families to reach new heights in achievement.
We want to welcome Ms. Andrea Harmon to our school community in her new role as assistant principal. She is excited to join our community effective July 1. In a future communication, information will be shared regarding opportunities to meet Ms. Harmon.
Andrea Harmon
Since middle school when I saw a movie about the impact made by an educator named Marva Collins, I knew that I wanted to contribute to the academic, social, and emotional development of children. I have been an educator in Howard County Public Schools for 24 years, where I began working at Owen Brown Middle/ Cradlerock School (now named Lake Elkhorn Middle) as a 7th grade English teacher/team leader and reading specialist. Next, I went onto Mayfield Woods & Elkridge Landing Middle Schools as a leadership intern; there, I had experiences that aided in my development as an administrator. I have served as assistant principal at Murray Hill, Patapsco, and Wilde Lake Middle Schools. In my pursuit to become an educator, I earned my Bachelor's of Science degree in elementary education from Bowie State University, Masters of Art in reading education from The Ohio State University, and Graduate Certificate in Administration and Supervision from Johns Hopkins University.
All of my children received their education from Howard County Public Schools; two of my children went to Mayfield Woods Middle. As a parent, I am appreciative of the education and care my children received from the staff at MWMS. I am honored to become a part of the Mayfield Woods Middle community as an assistant principal to make a difference in the lives of students.
Please join us in wishing both Ms. Cunningham and Ms. Harmon well in this new phase of their administrative journey.
