Back to School Night, September 14, 2017

Tue, 09/05/2017 - 9:54pm

Back to School Night is quickly approaching and will be held on Thursday, September 14. We look forward to having you visit our school, meet your child’s teachers, and learn more about the classes your child is taking this year!

You should plan to arrive by 5:40/5:45 p.m., as the evening will begin promptly at 5:55 p.m. in your child’s homeroom (be sure to ask your child the name and room number of his/her homeroom teacher).  Please review the details below to make the night an enjoyable, successful one for all.

What time should I arrive?

We suggest you arrive by 5:40/5:45 p.m. Parking will be challenging; we suggest that you carpool if possible. Thanks!

Who should attend?

We know you may be wondering whether or not to bring your child with you. Although he/she may want to attend, we respectfully request that if at all possible, you come to Back to School Night without your child.  Space is limited and if this year is like years past, the hallways will be filled with adults moving in various directions to get to class on time.  Don’t worry about getting lost – staff and student volunteers will be available to help you arrive to your child’s classrooms, so you will not need to bring your student to help guide you.  You will also receive a map of the school to help you find your way to classes.  Thank you in advance - we appreciate your support!

What should I bring?

Your child’s schedule will be waiting for you in his/her homeroom when you arrive to school, so you do not need to bring a copy of the schedule with you. Click here for our 2017-2018 homeroom lists.  You may want to bring something so that you can take notes, if needed, however.  In addition, the PTA will have a table set-up for membership, so you may want to bring cash or a check so you can join this wonderful organization.

What should I do when I arrive?

When you arrive, please proceed to your child’s homeroom; click here to see our homeroom list (please be sure to look under the proper grade for your child’s last name).  Once you arrive to your child’s homeroom, you will receive his/her schedule.  If for some reason you are running late, schedules will be moved to a help desk in the foyer after homeroom ends.     We also suggest you take a picture of your child's schedule so you have it handy.

What is the schedule for the evening?

The evening will begin promptly at 5:55 p.m. in your child’s homeroom.  We are starting 5 minutes early as we will show a short safety message / video from HCDrugFree prior to the start of the evening.  We strongly encourage you to arrive in time to view the video.

Your child’s schedule, a school map, and the bell schedule for the evening will be waiting for you in homeroom.  If you want to preview the evening, the bell schedules for each grade are below.  During homeroom, “Daily Announcements” will be broadcast on the television – just like the students experience each day.  Please be sure to arrive to your child’s homeroom by 5:55 p.m..  The message from HCDrugFree will begin promptly at 5:55 p.m. and the announcements will immediately follow.  After the announcements, you will be “dismissed to class” at 6:09 p.m.  Classes will be 8 minutes in length with a short 2-minute transition time between classes.

What else can I expect?

Attending Back to School Night is an exciting time for students, parents and teachers.  We look forward to having you visit our school, and we are excited that you will have the opportunity to visit your child’s classrooms and listen to a presentation from the professionals who teach them.  We respectfully request that you refrain from recording or photographing the presentations

Our staff members will have a brief amount of time to share the information they feel is the most important for you to know.  Because time is limited, there is not time for individual conversations or conferences.  If there is something that you would like to address with a teacher, we want to give you the time and attention you deserve which cannot be achieved on Back to School Night.  If this is the case, we respectfully request that you either contact the teacher directly or that you contact the student services (guidance) office to arrange for a conference.

We look forward to seeing you Thursday!
